Training and racing among the redwoods
Whether on a daily training run or duirng home competition, Humboldt State's cross country runners must overcome the urge to stop and appreciate the beauty of their surroundings. HSU's most common training venue - the trails of the Arcata Community Forest - offers both rigorous hills and soft terrain that prepares the Jacks for racing. Its shade and sereneity work well in conjunction with the coastal climate to create ideal conditions for distance runners.

Once a year, the Jacks take their talents to Patrick's Point State Park where they host the Humboldt Invitational. Located 18 miles north of Arcata, Patrick's Point is a 640 acre park that features trails through dense forests of spruce, hemlock, pine, fir and red alder, also traversing an ocean headland featuring wildflower meadows.
