CHICO — Humboldt State's Helena Silva achieved a career-best 4,017 points, placing third overall in the heptathlon at the Chico Multi-Events competition Friday.

Silva's two-day total moves her into fifth all-time on the list of Humboldt State's heptathletes. The senior easily eclipsed her previous best of 3,831 points, posted in 2008.

"Helena put together two solid days," HSU head coach Sandy Moran said. "We're looking forward to her next competition at Cal Berkeley next month."

Silva's efforts Thursday and Friday included third-place finishes in the javelin (114 feet, 4 inches), long jump (16-0 1/2) and shot put (33-2). She also placed fourth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.70 seconds.

Rounding out her performance was a clearance of 4-6 in the high jump, a time of 28.14 seconds in the 200 meters, and a clocking of 2 minutes, 33.52 seconds in the final event, the 800 meters.
