ARCATA — Humboldt State's matinee idols, the Lumberjack men's basketball players, put on an all-star show for a nationwide television audience in their 87-54 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday.

BOXSCORE

Point guard Zac Tiedeman was the leading man, scoring 17 points and dishing eight assists to help Humboldt State improve its record to 16-5 overall and 13-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Along with viewers watching the CBS College Sports broadcast, 1,850 fans in the sold-out Lumberjack Arena observed the Jacks drop CSUMB to 7-13 and 5-10 in league.

The Lumberjacks never trailed, opening an eight-point lead in the game's early minutes and holding a 15-point lead by halftime. Tideman hit a pair of 3-pointers in the opening period, and Brian Morris did the damage down low, scoring six of his 17 points.

Kevin Atkins made the Otters pay on the perimeter and in the paint, draining a 3-pointer and working his way inside for a bucket. Atkins finished the game with 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Kyle Baxter scored 13 points off the bench for HSU.

Davion Berry was the only CSUMB player to score in double digits, finishing with 16 points. Ian Hosford topped his team in rebounding with six, but the HSU dominated the boards overall, grabbing 38 rebounds to the Otters' 27.

Cal State Monterey Bay whittled the lead down to 14 points on Shaun Williams' layup with 12 minutes, 52 seconds remaining. But HSU ended any comeback hopes with a 16-2 run, moving ahead 74-44 on Baxter's second straight 3-pointer with 5:46 left to play.

Humboldt State plays its final two regular season home games this week, taking on Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday and facing Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday.
