ARCATA — Brian Morris roamed the paint with authority Thursday, scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in Humboldt State's 85-73 win over San Francisco State.

With the win, the Jacks improved to 15-5 overall and are now 12-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Humboldt State moved one-half game ahead of idle Cal State San Bernardino on top the CCAA standings. The Coyotes host Cal State Stanislaus on Friday.
Morris, the Jacks' 6-9 junior post, benefited from senior point guard Zac Tiedeman's passing prowess on a layup that gave HSU a 25-17 lead midway through the first half. The Lumberjacks held that same advantage of eight points heading into the lockerroom leading 40-32.
"They didn't have an answer for Brian tonight," HSU head coach Tom Wood said. "When they tried to double down on him, he did a nice job finding open players. He played the game right, the way we needed him to."
Tiedeman, last week's CCAA/Wilson Player of the Week, finished with eight assists without committing a turnover. He also scored 15 points to supplement Morris' offensive efforts.
Also in double figures for HSU were Kyle Baxter and Elliot Babcock-Krenk with 13 pionts each, and Kevin Atkins with 11 points.
In the second half, San Francisco State pulled within six points on Nefi Perdomo's 3-pointer with 8 minutes, 6 seconds remaining. But the Jacks rebuilt their lead, moving up by 15 on Morris' layup off a feed from Baxter and never allowed the Gators closer than 12 the rest of the way.
Phoenix O'Rourke paced the Gators, scoring a season-high 18 points. Also in double figures were Marquel Hoskins and Tim Pratt, both with 13 points.
Humboldt State is back in Lumberjack Arena on Saturday afternoon for a matinee game against Cal State Monterey Bay at 2:30 p.m. The game will be telecast nationwide on CBS College Sports network.
