Jacks No. 7 in first regional poll

ARCATA – The Humboldt State women’s basketball team is ranked seventh in the season’s first NCAA Division II West Region poll, it was announced today.

UC San Diego (14-1), who the Jacks defeated 84-80 last week, are the top team in the region. Followed by Western Washington, Seattle Pacific, Northwest Nazarene and Cal Poly Pomona to round out the top-five.  Alaska-Anchorage is sixth followed by HSU, Cal State Monterey Bay, Grand Canyon and Chico State in 10th.

The poll is released on a weekly basis until March 3. In assessing the teams, the NCAA Division II Committee considers overall record and in-region record against NCAA Division II programs.  The top eight teams in each of the eight regions will qualify for the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament.

SEATTLE – With 10:04 left to play the Humboldt State women’s basketball team had a 62-50 lead, but Chico State went on an 18-3 run over the next four minutes to propel them to a 86-76 win in the NCAA Division II women’s basketball West Regional semifinals in the Royal Brougham Pavilion on the campus of Seattle Pacific University.

SEATTLE – For the third time in three weeks and at the third different location the Humboldt State women’s basketball team faced UC San Diego.  Today the location was the Royal Brougham Pavilion on the campus of Seattle Pacific University and though it wasn’t raining outside, senior Brittney Taylor rained a 3-pointer on the Tritons with 1:26 to play that gave the Jacks a 69-65 lead and propelled them to a 76-72 win in the first round of the NCAA Division II West Region Tournament.

ARCATA – Humboldt State women’s basketball center Brittney Taylor was named to the 2010 Daktronics West Region all-star team it was announced Wednesday.  Taylor, a senior, averaged 18.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks in leading the Lumberjacks to the 2010 CCAA Championship and a berth in the NCAA West Region Tournament.

ARCATA – By virtue of its 85-55 victory on Saturday over the No. 3 seed Chico State in the CCAA Championship game, the Humboldt State women’s basketball team earned the conference’s automatic bid in the NCAA Division II West Region Tournament that begins on Friday in Seattle, Wash.

ARCATA – The Humboldt State women’s basketball team shot 67 percent from the field in the second half and used a 24-4 run to open the half, keyed by six 3-pointers, en route to blowing out Chico State 85-55 to win the 2009-10 California Collegiate Athletic Association basketball championship and an automatic berth into the Division II NCAA Basketball Tournament.
