STANFORD — Humboldt State's men placed 15th overall and the HSU women took 18th place in the collegiate cross country races at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday.
HSU's Megan Rolland again was the fastest Jack, taking 52nd with a personal best time of 22 minutes, 17 seconds on the 6-kilometer course. The senior from Emmett, Idaho was the fourth athlete representing an NCAA Division II school to cross the finish line.
"Megan raced well with the Division I girls, and beat people who she hasn't before," HSU head coach Sandy Moran said.
Also scoring for the Lumberjacks were Bridget Berg, in 92nd place, Irene Graham, 140th, Chelsea Schaefer, 147th, and Amanda Garcia, 155th. Twenty-two schools were represented in the women's division.
In the men's 8K, HSU's top finisher was sophomore Drew Sylvester in 70th position. Sylvester was timed in 25:46, just over two minutes behind race-winner Chris Derrick of Stanford.
Placing 82nd was HSU's Austin Huff in 25:57, and teammate Eric Malain was 94th with a time of 26:07. Humboldt State's Alex Caballero finished in 106th place and Luis Galicia was 134th. Eighteen schools competed in the men's event.
"Individually, this was a breakthrough race for Austin Huff," Moran said. "Drew ran solid, as always. He's been our most consistent runner."
