ARCATA — Looking to extend its season with a trip to nationals, the Humboldt State women’s rowing team will compete Saturday in the unofficial NCAA Division II West Regional at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships (PCRC) hosted by the Sac State Aquatic Center on Lake Natoma.
Regatta Notes
Joining the Jacks at the PCRC are four-time national champions Western Washington and UC San Diego. Seattle Pacific will not be competing as the team has already earned an at-large bid to nationals after a successful performance at the Dad Vail Regatta. The PCRC will host events at the collegiate, masters and open levels with all races facing off on a 2,000-meter course.
Lumberjacks Notes
Last weekend the Lumberjacks had a frustrating outing at their first Dad Vail Regatta due to high winds and whitewater overwhelming the lake. …Despite a history of struggles at the PCRC the past few years, the Jacks look to change their fate this year. HSU will be racing its varsity eight and four boats. “Our eight boat is the same,” Humboldt State head women’s rowing coach Robin Meiggs. “And we believe that changing our four boat should make it go faster, that’s what our hopes are.” …After the regatta the team will hold their own graduation ceremony for seniors Jessica Booth, Jackie Colloton and Karen Russo.
Meiggs Mentions
“The PCRC is no longer a required regatta like it has been in the past. About 10 days ago I found out this information and that Seattle Pacific would not be attending the PCRC. As well as SPU did last weekend means their bid is set in stone. I was a little shocked. If we had known that earlier we would not be going this weekend, seeing as it is finals week and graduation weekend.”
