ARCATA — Six Humboldt State football players earned first-team selection to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Stars, selected by a vote of league coaches and announced Monday.

The Lumberjacks, who finished the season with a 33-23 GNAC win over Dixie State on Saturday, also had five players chosen for second team honors. Seven of their all-league players will return for the 2010 season.

Leading the HSU list were four first-team offensive performers. Junior center Taylor Boggs was chosen for the second straight year, and was joined by senior wide receiver Matt Smith, tight end Matt Devlin and all-purpose selection Corey Stollmeyer.

Boggs anchored the Jacks' line, helping rejuvenate the ground game while providing solid protection for HSU's quarterbacks. Smith was HSU's top receiver, finishing the year with 48 catches for 760 yards and nine touchdowns.

Devlin was another top offensive threat for HSU, hauling in 40 receptions for 576 yards and six touchdowns. Stollmeyer split time between slot receiver and running back, and despite missing the final game with an injury he was the  GNAC's all-purpose yards leader with an average of 105.4 yards per game.

Defensively, HSU placed senior linebacker Bubba Reynolds and junior defensive back Guy Ricciardulli on the first team. Riccardulli was also a 2008 honoree.

Reynolds topped the team in tackles with 78 for an average of 7.8 per game. Riccardulli had 61 total tackles, ranking him ninth in the GNAC, and also had three interceptions.

Chosen for second-team offense honors were Lumberjack running back Bobby Thomas, offensive lineman Riordan Gomez, quarterback Mike Proulx and kicker Kyle Schierholt. On defense, lineman Luke Swangler, cornerback Elzie Gatson and punt returner Edwin Henry were second-team selections.

GNAC champion Central Washington swept the top honors, with wide receiver Johnny Spevak taking home Offensive Player-of-the-Year and linebacker Buddy Wood claiming Defensive Player-of-the-Year. Newcomer-of-the-Year was CWU's Prince Hall, Freshman-of-the-Year was Ryan Robertson, and Wildcats' coach Blaine Bennett earned Coach-of-the-Year honors.
