CHICO – Hoping to even the season series after dropping their first meeting in Lumberjack Arena, the Humboldt State volleyball team traveled to Chico State and fell 3-0, 25-20, 25-14, 28-26 on Saturday night.

Oceana Matsubu led the Jacks with 10 kills.  Joliann Arzadon had a 20 assist, 11 dig double-double and Allison Drobish hit .385 (7-2-13) for Humboldt State who now have a 7-21 overall record, 3-17 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.  The Chico State Wildcats are 22-8 on the season, 13-7 in conference.

Box Score

In the first set the Wildcats broke a 2-2 tie on a Makenzie Snyder kill and went on a 12-4 run building a 14-6 lead.  HSU cut the advantage to three points, 14-9, after a pair of Emily Nuss and a Matsubu kill.  Chico pushed their advantage to as many as seven points, 19-12, before the Jacks battled back at 23-20.  A kill buy the Wildcats’ Gillian Heydorff and an attack error by Drobish ended the game 25-20.

HSU started the second game with a 5-1 advantage behind a Matsubu kill and a pair of Arzadon service aces, but Chico State then went on a 11-1 run, helped by six attack errors by the Jacks.  The Wildcats cruised from there to a 25-14 win in the second game.

The third game was tight all the way through with Chico State building its largest lead, three points at 9-6.  A Caitlin Dugan kill for the Jacks tied the game at 10-10.  The two teams then went back and forth trading the lead and tying the score 11 times up to 23-23.

An attack error by Chico’s Snyder game the Jacks a 24-23 lead, but a service error tied the match at 24-24.  The Wildcats went up 25-24 before a Matsubu kill tied it again.  Back-to-back attack errors knotted the game at 26-26 before a pair of kills won it for Chico State 28-26.
