ARCATA – In his final home match as a Humboldt State Lumberjack, senior Tony Ramirez assisted on an eighth minute goal as the HSU tied the No. 14 Sonoma State Seawolves 1-1 on Friday night in Redwood Bowl.  The tie improves the Jacks record to 6-10-3 overall and 5-8-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association action.  The Seawolves are now 13-3-3, 10-3-2 in conference.

The Jacks opened the scoring at the 7:45 mark as Ramirez and Josh Suggs played a perfect give and go from 30 yards out.  Suggs took the shot from the top of the 18 and beat the Sonoma keeper to the far post.  The goal was Suggs’ team leading ninth of the season and the assist was Ramirez’s fourth, also tops for the side.

In the 27th minute the Seawolves got the equalizer.   Cam Vickers jumped on a free ball at the top of the 18 and beat Jacks’ keeper Kyle Verle to the far post.

With SSU outshooting Humboldt State 9-5 the teams went to the half tied 1-1.

HSU had the two best scoring chances in the second half.  In the 66th minute Suggs had a header that went just wide of an open net.  In the 70th minute, Suggs briefly got free behind the Seawolves defense but couldn’t control the ball or pull the trigger on a shot.

The sides played a scoreless second period and neither team found the back of the net in 20 minutes of overtime.

In addition to Ramirez, Roland Demombynes, Zlatan Sahmanovic, Lloyd Sinclair and Ben Vasser all played in their final home match on Friday.

On Sunday the Jacks play their final game of the year at Sonoma State.  Kick off is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
